I hope all of your Easter celebrations were a success. I found this table runner idea on Pinterest and thought it was really cute so I decided to try it. Well after the reaction I got today I would recommend it to you all. I went through all my boxes of old photos and just pulled random photos of the guests who would be at breakfast this morning. All the photos were different sizes wallets, 4x6, 5x7, plus some random size from some old black and whites. I took the whole pile of photos to Target and used their Rapid Scanner. It scanned 250 photos in just a few minutes. It took 2 CD's to put all the photos on disc's and cost around $9.00. From there I went home and uploaded to my Costco Account. I changed all the photos to black and white and added a torn edge border to the photos. This was the most time consuming part because I edited each picture individually. I am sure there is a way to have the whole order printed black and white I just didn't know how to do it. The Torn Border Edge is only available online you cannot do it from the kiosk in the warehouse. The Torn Border is an option when you go to check out. Once your pictures are developed you are ready to go. It cost me $30.00 to develop around 250 photos (this is way more photos than you need). I set my table so that I would know how much space I had in the middle of my table for the picture runner. I put out the name cards so that I would know where each of my guests would be sitting. Then just begin to lay down the photos. I put photos of each guest ranging from baby photos, school pictures, graduations, weddings ect. There were a few Guests that I did not have photos of (new boyfriends and girlfriends) for those guests I just put pictures of the person who brought them in front of their place setting. I just layed picture next to picture and some on top of each other so that none of the table cloth was showing in between the photos. Originally I was going to tape the photos to each other and my mom talked me out of it. She was right. At the end of the afternoon the guests that wanted to take some photos got to. It ended up being a sweet gift that they got to take home with them. I did want to incorporate the cross and the Resurrection of Jesus. So I went on the website heartlight.org and copied and pasted some images with scriptures on them. I printed these images on photo paper and they were the only color photos in the table runner which made them stand out. By the way, how I found those images was from watching the Chris Tomlin video on U Tube. It is very powerful here is the link to watch it.
So now that you know how to make it let me tell you about the morning. I was super excited for everyone to come and see the photos. I did not tell any of my family I was doing this. I even found some old pictures of my husband that I wanted to surprise him with. I thought the table looked very nice with the flowers and candles. At first glance from across the room you wouldn't even notice the photo table runner. So my siblings, the cousins, my kids all begin to arrive. I am busy hopping around the kitchen trying to keep the food warm until all the guests arrive. My sisters are warming cinnamon rolls, another is cutting strawberries for the waffles, my brother in law is opening champagne for some mimosa's things are busy. After about 10-15 minutes things begin to settle and one of the cousins notices the photos. She call's over somebody to come look. Then another guest moves to look at the photos, and then another. By the time I had all the food Laid out on the buffet I think every person except for my mom who was stuck at the waffle maker cooking her famous Belgium Waffles was at the table looking at the photos. Everyone was talking and laughing so much so it was hard to get the room to settle down so that Grandpa could say Grace. I cannot tell you how many times I heard some one say "Oh my Gosh look at this!". Even the guests that I did not have pictures of enjoyed seeing it. Everyone absolutely loved the idea. Everyone was taking pictures with their phones and texting them to more friends or posting them on facebook. There were a few guests that went home with a stack of photos. And I had to make promises to others that I would burn them copies of the CD's. It was definitely worth the time it took. My Husband told me later that I could of left out the pictures of him in high school wearing a speedo for his swim meet. I told him those were my favorite so I could show our kids how hot he was and of course still is!!LOL
